BOOKED FULL FOR TRAINING IN JANUARY.  CALL FOR AVAILABILITY.   Rex Amos 352-875-8180

We had a full barn in January & have a full barn of training horses for February & March.  If you are interested in booking your horse for training, we do have a waiting list and are taking deposits as well.  Thank you!

The current line up of horses in training with us here at MR Performance Horses. With Rex & Mandy both working full time jobs and having our own horses, we are limited on how many clients horses we take in on a monthly basis. We really strive to do a good job with all our horses in training, and will not take in more than we can handle.  Feel free to look at these horses, and if you have any questions or comments do not hesitate to contact us!

2008 AQHA Palomino Gelding.  Owned by April Collins.  More info, pictures, etc to follow!

"Colby" is a 2003 APHA Breeding Stock Bay gelding.  Colby came into our barn on February 17th.  He stands a solid 16.3 hands and had a few starts on the Race Track.  Colby is in to get legged up, hauled & campaigned on the Barrels.  Colby has only been entered a few times and we look forward to getting a more solid foundation on him for the dry work and the barrel pattern.

Update:  Colby has been hauled to a couple practice pens and also to work cattle.

March 12th - Owner, Carrie, lopes Colby a very pretty pattern at the Williston Jackpot to win the 4D.

March 18th- Carrie lopes through at the Ocala Fox Trotters Jackpot and was too fast for the 4D

Thank you Carrie Karppe of Zephyrhills, Florida

"Joe" is a 2006 AQHA Red Dun Gelding.  He came into our barn on February 13th.  Joe is loping the pattern and been hauled to several arenas to exhibition.  He is in for 60 days to be hauled to barrel races and practice pens to begin the process of being seasoned. Aside from the Barrel Pattern Joe will be rode at the farm, by Mandy & Rex.  They will help Joe progress with basic handling and foundation work.  Having a horse that will collect, use themselves properly and respond to all your cues and body language is a key component to sucess in the performance arena.  Please check back for updates, pictures and videos of Joe over the next 30 days.

March 11th - Joe had a real pretty run at Palatka!  Video to be posted on You Tube

Thank you Amber Crocco of Fellsmere, Florida for your business!

"Margarita" is a 2009 Black Thoroughbred Filly by With Distinction.  Big & beautiful this filly is in for breaking & training, then that will be followed by galloping on the track.  Margarita came into our barn on January 23rd, she will have a solid sixty days of training, then getting turned out to pasture for a little bit.

First week of training was good.  We spent a lot of time handling this filly and getting her to move forward via lunging in the round pen.

Second week of training is under way!  This filly is lunging great.  Has taken to a surcingle and is getting sacked out.

This filly was getting lunged with a saddle on and working well.  Currently out of training for a temporary break.

Thank you Candy & Carl Moulton of Ocala, Florida
Please stay tuned for updates, pictures, and videos!

"Cody" is in for Barrel Racing Training.  He came into the barn on January 8th.  Cody is a seven year old AQHA gelding in for barrel training.  He was previously used for roping, reining, and trail riding.  We will spend a little time getting Cody tuned and in shape before starting him on the pattern.  At MR Performance Horses we do not just start the horses on the barrels, we make sure they have all the buttons, cues, and a solid foundation before seeing the barrels.

Cody is pictured being untacked by Rex on February 16th.  He settled in real nice and is going to work.  After a month of training Cody is really coming around.  He is starting to use himself properly.  Really getting underneath himself, keeping his hip tucked and his shoulder up.  Breaking at the poll and working up into the bridle nice.  Cody has been hauled to a few practice pens and jackpots getting used to the sights and scenes.  He is now going to be started on the barrel pattern.  After a solid 45 days we feel now that Cody has a solid foundation on him, he has all the tools to gather himself up and nicely turn the barrels with minimum handling, making it a pleasure for him and the rider.  Please check back for details as we start working him on the Barrel Pattern.

Cody is pictured after two months of training.  He doesn't look like the same horse!

Video taken the first week of March.  This is Codys first time loping up to the Barrels & trotting around them.

Thank You & Please check back for pictures, videos, & updates of Blue KY Wrangler.

"Dos" is a 1999 AQHA Palomino Gelding owned by MR Performance Horses.  Dos came to us in August of 2009.  He came in desperately needing a break from barrel racing & competition.  Dos was a very successful barrel & pole horse previously, but had a few bad experiences which left him very sour and burnt up which led to bigger problems.  We rode him for 45 days as an unwinding process, where he was just used to pony horses & work cattle.  Dos was then turned out on a vacation for the last part of 2009 and most of 2010.  A break can do a horse wonders, we hoped to bring back a fresh individual after the long vacation.

Brought back into training in August of 2010, Dos has been used extensively to pony colts on the farm.  The break seems to have done Dos good mentally and physically.  We will get him in shape and working nice on the farm as a pony horse before bringing Dos back to the Barrel Racing Arena letting him take things at his own speed. Slow and proper!  Please check back for details and updates on Dos!

Mandy & Dos are shown at the Fiddlers Turkey Run in Jacksonville in November 2010.  He coasted a nice run and clocked a second off some really nice horses!

www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCukxBF4xhs

Ponying colts has been GREAT for Dos.  He came back mentally and physically ready for barrel racing.  Clocking in the 3D for a month or two and picking up a pay check most every time he went to a barrel race.  Running the same pattern every time Dos seems to enjoy the barrels.  In December Dos stepped it up and picked up SEVERAL 2D checks!

January 7th -***Starting 2011 with a smoking run!  Dos clocks 3/10's off Alan Staley & Siggy.  Alan has been winning everything for the past few months on Siggy!  Dos is really coming on & we look forward to stepping it up with every run!  He is getting faster, stronger, and more confident with each race!***

Frankee has an incredible pedigree full of proven race horses, barrel horses, and pole bending champions!  He arrived in Florida on September 27th.  This photo was taken the middle of October with about ten rides on him.  Frankee is riding nice, and we look forward to hauling him to arenas and barrel races to start seeing the atmospheres!  Check back for more updates on his training and progress.  We did get a video of him riding in November at a Practice Pen, check our You Tube Channel for it.  Thanks for looking!

Update: January 2011 Firewater Frankee is started on the barrel pattern.  He is doing great and is very sharp.  He has a lot of natural rate and likes to turn.  Watch for him at the upcoming barrel races.  He will be getting hauled and starting to exhibition a little bit, while being prepped for the Futurities!

Video of Frankee on March 15th at MC Arena.  Frankee has seen the Barrel Pattern about a half dozen times in this video:

This is the new mount for Rex!!  Our latest addition to the crew. "Twist" was bought on March 15th by Rex, after being in training with us for two months.  He is a 2002 AQHA Buckskin Gelding standing about 15-15.1 hands.  He is loping the barrel pattern, used to pony horses and works cattle!  A very nice broke gelding that Rex really enjoys to ride!
